With this past week’s long list announcement for the 2010 Polaris Music Prize, we thought it would be a good idea to feature a recent Massey Hall headliner who was included in that lengthy list.
In January, two of the coolest women we know, Tegan and Sara, performed to a sold out and enthusiastic crowd. In this weeks Listening Booth check out this fan posted clip we found of them performing “Feel It In My Bones” acoustically, live at Massey Hall.
Tegan and Sara perform their latest single, “Hell.”
For identical twin sisters, Tegan and Sara seem to be all about the contrasts.
The duo have come up with a series of solid albums – including Sainthood, their recently released fifth – that have offered very personal and heartfelt lyrics accompanied musically by an increasingly mature and complex blend of pop, rock, and punk.
This is not your typical sounding singer-songwriter stuff.
Long time fans who’ve attended one of their shows will attest that this material also lends itself to creating a one of kind, not-to-be-missed performance experience. Of course, this is partly due to the famously witty brand of onstage banter with which the pair punctuate their shows, a bracing juxtaposition with the sincere nature of their music. It is true to form then that the Quinn twins will be following up their Massey Hall appearance on Tuesday January 19 with a club gig at the Kool Haus the following day. Anyone lucky enough to scoop up tickets to both shows will get a unique chance to see Tegan and Sara perform in two very different settings, yet somehow be equally comfortable in both.
Quite the contrast indeed.

Last week we looked at what Rolling Stone and Billboard thought of the decade based, respectively, on logarithms and sales reports. This week we thought we’d check out some more local and Canadian based lists. CONTINUE READING >
