PERFORMANCES

Conan O’Brien (Saturday): It’s here, it’s here, it’s finally here! It’s the day that Co-co returns to the T-dot! Conan O’Brien, as you will recall, visited Toronto in the not-too-distant past, broadcasting a series of episodes of his Late Night show from the Elgin Theatre in February 2004. Canadians were delighted (what with the references to Canadian accents, igloos, mounties, and back bacon,) American viewers, understandably, were somewhat confused, and good times were had by all. Come Saturday, Toronto will have one more opportunity for a very special night with Co-co on our own turf before he returns to the late night airwaves come November.

Women Fully Clothed

PERFORMANCES

Women Fully Clothed: Older & Hotter (Friday): Mother’s Day is this Sunday and what better way to celebrate with Mom than bringing her out for a night on the town featuring these four funny ladies. The Toronto Star recently featured the fabulous foursome (Kathryn Greenwood, Robin Duke, Jayne Eastwood, and Teresa Pavlinek) while they lunched at the Windsor Arms Tea Room and just Monday morning they chatted with Seamus O’Regan on Canada AM about blackberries at funerals, border-crossing mishaps, and shopping at Costco. Visit their event page here and click on the video link to see an example of Women Fully Clothed, performing live.

a-ha (Monday): a-ha return to Massey Hall after an absence of almost 25 years as part of their “Ending on a High Note Farewell Tour”  (they last visited the Grand Old Lady on October 16, 1986.) Over on chromewaves, there’s a track available of New Pornographers’ A.C. Newman‘s take on a-ha’s Take On Me. It’s quite delightful – an innovative take on this classic piece of synthpop while still paying it the homage its due. CONTINUE READING >

2010 JUNO Awards Diary – Day 2

So the snow is on the ground and the fog has rolled in. Seems that most flights have either been cancelled or seriously delayed. But I’m here, and so are hundreds of other music people. I was “screeched in” last night, along with several staffers from Universal Music Canada. If by chance you are not familiar with the concept, you can watch Conan O’Brien get screeched in here: httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d3bD7427Nqc

bruce_croppedJUST ANNOUNCED
Last week Luminato announced the 2010 Music Program for the ten-day festival in June. Together with Luminato, we’ll be bringing you the third installation of the Canadian Songbook – this time celebrating the music of Bruce Cockburn with a new and exciting twist: Mr. Cockburn himself will be on stage. A medley of other fine musicians (including Hawksley Workman and Colin Linden) will join Cockburn to celebrate the occasion. Tickets to Luminato events go on sale in April. You can check out what the Toronto Star wrote on the latest Luminato announcements here.

We’ve also just added a second performance by Royal Wood on Saturday, April 10. Can’t make it to the first concert on April 1, now here’s a second chance to check out the man who CBC Radio 3 calls “an artist whose time is at hand to be heard”. Enjoy some Royal Wood flavoured audio video over here.
