Performances
We’ve got some great shows coming up that we’re really excited about…
Bob Newhart (Friday): The comic legend, joins us at Roy Thomson Hall on Friday, April 13. Mr Newhart is an icon from the golden era of American comedy. The dry, stammering delivery he has cultivated over the years has worn quite well with age. I was fortunate enough to catch his last show here in 2009 and it was real treat. This is not to miss! We are now into the first week of December and that means only one thing: fabulous holiday-themed movies that are fun for the whole family! One such fantastic film is the newer but destined-to-be-canonized Elf. Why, you might ask, would you bring up such a thing on this, the Soundboard blog? Why because one of our favourite comedians plays a very important role in the film: Papa Elf is played by none other than Bob Newhart, who will be performing his signature stand-up material right here at Roy Thomson Hall on Friday.
While we don’t anticipate that Papa Elf will be making an appearance on Friday, it’s interesting to note Newhart’s versatility. I won’t bother you with the premise of the film (if you don’t already know it and therefore love it to pieces) – instead I’ll let Papa Elf himself provide a little exposition:
Yamato Drummers of Japan (Wednesday): the Yamato Drummers present Matsuri FIESTA as part of their world tour, and it promises to be one breathtaking show. Check out this background post on the drummers from yesterday, and prepare yourself for an invigorating and inspiring percussion experience at Massey Hall tomorrow night.
Bob Newhart (FRIDAY): For a little slice of what Newhart is all about, check out a clip from this recent cinematic gem. The classic funnyman brings his dry wit and clever satire to the Roy Thomson Hall stage this Friday.
Sophie Milman (FRIDAY): Sophie’s just been nominated for a 2010 Canadian Smooth Jazz Award for Female Vocalist of the Year, and released Take Love Easy just this past spring – it sprang to number one on the charts soon thereafter. Hear her sing the title track from the album on Canada AM, and then check out the real deal at Massey Hall. CONTINUE READING >
