Roy Thomson Hall and Massey Hall obviously attract great performers; what you may not realize though, is that this talent is not limited to the artists you see on stage. Among our staff – and especially among the part-time, front-line customer service staff – are people with any number of hidden talents. Many of our friendly box office agents and ushers are, in their alternate lives, singers, dancers, actors, artists, photographers, conductors, jugglers, and lion tamers. (Okay, maybe not that last one.) Over the next few weeks we’ll be telling you some of their stories.
Jenny Harper has found a great way to combine her two passions in life: when she is not found inside the walls of Roy Thomson Hall, ushering and taking in music and culture, she can often be found outdoors beautifying gardens across Toronto.
Jenny has been ushering at Roy Thomson Hall for seven years now. She was brought here by her love of symphonic music and her now twenty years of volunteer ushering experience with
Since he was there enjoying the party, Jenny walked straight up to President and C.E.O. Charlie Cutts, who directed her to the appropriate staff member in charge of these matters. A few months later, Jenny’s front-of-house supervisors watched from their offices above as she climbed up those cages in the name of beautifying the outdoor patio.
Thirteen years ago, Jenny also started up her own business called PLANTSCAPE, which offers garden services to her dedicated clients, including garden restoration, small tree and shrub sculpting, plant maintenance, and design. With no plans to retire from either endeavour, you can look out for Jenny at the Hall, or perhaps spot her a garden near you!
